June Poetry & Chapbook Contests



Happy summer! Here is a compiled list of some opportunities in June you can enter into to publish your work!

 

  • The Closed Eye Open - An online journal that explores consciousness including visionary, mystical, & psychedelic experiences. They are looking for poems to be submitted to either of their online issues in summer or in the winter.

  • Malasaña - An online arts magazine established in new England in 2019. They value language above all and are interested in writing that shows a love for language, experimentation, and craftsmanship from urgent and diverse voices from historically-silenced people. They are looking for poetry for publication on their website.

  • Burningword Literary Journal - An online and print journal, published quarterly and includes work of poetry, short fiction, short nonfiction, and photography. They are looking for poetry for their upcoming summer issue.

  • Prometheus Dreaming - An online cultural journal dedicated to those things that make his [Prometheus] sacrifice worthwhile, such as the knowledge of dreams and the terror of the dark. Each day of the week is a new theme where they accept different kinds of work. On Wednesdays they publish poetry and on Fridays they accept work for aspiring creatives.

  • Allegory Ridge - Explore, Create, and Grow. Allegory Ridge is an online print magazine for open-minded millennials, that also publishes a print collection every year. They are looking fo work for their website, fifth print issue, poetry anthologies, and their book-length publishing press.

  • Tint Journal - An online journal that explicitly focuses on writers who's native language isn't English. They look for English as second language writers, as well as ones who produce work in their non-native tongue, who bridge boarders and blend cultures. They are looking for poetry to be published on their website.

  • Columbia Journal - An online and print journal published the Columbia University's School of the Arts. They are looking to publish poetry for their upcoming special issue "Loneliness". Winners receive $50.

  • Empty Mirror - An online literary magazine that publishes new work each Friday. This June is their LGBTQ+ Pride Issue. They are looking for poetry that fits the theme to be published in the upcoming issue.

  • Blue - A literary magazine accepting poetry for their anthology "catch flights, not feelings", a collection about long-distance relationships and missed connections. They offer $10 for every piece they accept.

  • The Seventh Wave - An arts and literary nonprofit that invites writers, artists, and activitsts, and creators, to take part in conversation about the pressing social issues we are facing. They are now accepting poetry for their 12th issue "Before After".

  • The Moving Force Journal - An online journal that aims to find and publish new classics that are worthy of the literary predecessors, work that will stand the test of time. They are looking for poetry for their 3rd issue, which will be released in Fall 2020.

  • Palette Poetry - They are taking submissions of poetry for The 2020 Sappho Prize, judged by Victoria Chang. All women (cis, trans, non-binary, etc) are welcome to submit and 1st place and two runners ups win a cash prize and publication though Palette Poetry.

  • Radix Media - An independent press looking for poets of color to publish a chapbook-length of poetry in their Own Voices Chapbook prize. They are looking for work that believes that the personal is political. Work will be judged by Aria Aber.

  • Posit Journal - An online journal of literate and art. They are looking for poetry that is new, accomplished, and sophisticated work that is innovative, has an aesthetic vision, and accomplished craftsmanship.

  • DeLudge Journal - An online literary and arts journal devoted to the wealth of creativity that stems from dreams and from deeply felt life.They also have a flash journal - Flash Flood. They are looking for work for their newer issue.

  • Black Fox Literary Magazine - An online and print literary magazine found by three Black women. The magazine is looking for work for its summer issue with the theme of "scars". Winners could win a prize of $150.

  • Up the Staircase Quarterly - An online literary journal of poetry, art, interviews, and reviews. They are looking for work for their upcoming 50th issue in August

  • Fourteen Hills - A literary magazine produced by the San Francisco State University Writing department. It is committed to emerging cross-genre writers, as well as to award-winning established writers. They are accepting work for their 27th issue, due in Spring 2021.

  • Sequestrum - A literature and art press that also accepts manuscripts. They are looking for untamed poetry and poetry with a theme of "family" and/or "place" for their newest issue.

  • YesYesBooks - A publishing press looking for work that acknowledges and celebrates passionate, complex, and boundless natures. For their 2020 open reading period, they are looking for full-length poetry manuscripts.

  • Infinity Room - A room where al arts, talent, and creativity thrive. This online room is looking for poetry to be published on their website and are looking for diverse and creative writers.

  • From Whispers to Roars - An arts and literary Indie literary magazine that is looking for poetry to be published in their newest issue on their website.

  • Hole in the Head Review - An online literary magazine that is looking for poetry and found poetry to be included n their 3rd issue.

  • Third Point Press - A press aiming to be a voice in the literary community as well as in their own community. they are looking for work for there 17th issue, due August 10th.

  • Variant Literature - A nonprofit publisher supporting authors and artists. They hold quarterly publications and contests, and print chapbooks and novellas. They are looking for poetry for their summer issue.

  • iō Literary Journal - Founded by three diverse women in 2018, it is an yearly published journal that highlights voices that don't conform to traditional expectations of creativity. They are looking for poetry for their upcoming 3rd volume.

  • Autumn House Press - A nonprofit press whose mission it to publish and promote poetry and other fine literature. They are looking for full manuscripts of poetry. The final judge is Ilya Kaminsky and the winner receives publications and a $2,500 award. They also have a Rising Writer Prize in Poetry and publish chapbooks.

  • Pilgrimage Press - A press that publishes twice a year. Their magazine is dedicated to exploring sport, spirit, witness, and place. They are looking for contemporary apocalypse poetry for their upcoming anthology The End Will Not be Sugared: Contemporary Apocalypse Poetry.

  • Fjords Review - An internationally distributed magazine as well as an online publication. They are looking to publish chapbooks through Small Press Distribution starting in Fall 2020. Selected authors will receive 15 copies pf the book, as well as a standard contract.

  • Split Lip Magazine - A literary journal dedicated to voice-driven writing, pop culture, and brutal honesty. They are looking for fresh voices in poetry for their monthly online issues and annual print issues. They also pay their contributors. If you identify as a Black writer, submissions are free!

  • Atlanta Review - A biannual print magazine for poetry. In their mission, they stare "we publish poems, not poets" and looks for work that is delightful, refreshes the spirit, sparks curiosity, and more. They are accepting general poetry for their upcoming issue.

  • Black Lawrence Press - An independent press that publishes contemporary poetry. In their open reading period, they are looking for Chapbooks and full-length poetry collections that are innovative, electrifying, and intoxicating. They also offer poetry consultations with Lisa Fay Coutley.

  • Change Seven - An online literary journal that is seeking poetry from established and emerging talents. In their open reading period, they are looking for upcoming issue.

  • Black Lesbian Literary Collective - A literary journal specializing in port, prose, and art, that engages with issues of race, gender, sexuality, class, ability, and intersecting identities. They are looking for writers who identify as BIPOC for their upcoming summer print issue Serendipity.

  • The Laurel Review - A publishing press connected to Northwest State Missouri University. They are looking for submissions to their annual chapbook contest, in which the winners will receive publication and a chance to read at Northwest Missouri State University.

  • Flying Ketchup Press - A publishing press looking for great literature! They are looking for Deep Poetry; poetry that opens up your heart, soul, and mind on the page. Winners will be published in print and in an ebook. Winners will be promoted on Flying Ketchup Press' website and social media sites, as well as may have the opportunity to develop a chapbook or full length of poetry for publication.
