Why you should read it: A sci-fi/African American Lit novel about time traveling back to the Slave era. As the main character struggles to find her place in the 1970s as a Black woman in an interracial relationship, she is transported back to the 1800s where she meets her past ancestors as slaves. She is forced to be a bystander in this era and struggles to accept her place in a time where monstrosity, inhumane treatment and conditions, and captivity of the black body were the norm.
